First Alert Forecast: Flood watch extended until Tuesday morning, drier conditions due back on Tuesday

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The National Weather Service has extended the Flash Flood Watch until 6 AM Tuesday. The unstable atmosphere surrounding the island chain could lead to heavy rainfall and isolated thunderstorms.
Due to the heavy rainfall this weekend, the ground in some regions is already saturated. Further rain will lead to runoff and potentially flash flooding. The best chance for flooding continues to be in windward areas.
The unstable weather will continue throughout the week, but an overall drier pattern is expected on Tuesday. Stable breezy trades are expected to return Tuesday and will lead to typical windward showers through Wednesday.
Some wind gusts could climb up to 25-30 miles per hour midweek. The gusty trade wind pattern will dominate the rest of this work week. A slight uptick in rainfall can be expected during the back half of this work week.
